Service at Crawford House
The Oasis Center is a nationally-recognized organization that supports youth in Middle Tennessee as they transition to adulthood. For more details about their full, wraparound services, visit The Oasis Center.
Service at Crawford House supports our house values of Curiosity, Compassion, and Courage. We engage in service in an effort to understand the experiences of community members who may otherwise be invisible to us.
Next Steps welcomes students with developmental disabilities to postsecondary experiences on campus. Crawford House is "home" to five Next Steps affiliates, who are matched with Crawford AmbassaDores, trained residents who serve as mentors and peers. Our Next Steps affiliates are welcome to engage in all house events and are welcome faces at Playdates, Commons-wide events and especially Haunted House.
Oasis Center offers Crawford residents a means to share community with teens who are our residents' same-age peers, who often share the same dreams as our residents, but who are struggling with homelessness or other complicating obstacles.
In 2017-2018, Crawford residents contributed over 2,000 meals to the Oasis Center's food bank. We additionally came together to prepare blankets to donate for youth experiencing homelessness and participated in Commons-wide service events. We were honored to receive the Commons award for Service this year.
