Weekly socials welcome Crawford residents and friends from across Commons into the FHOH Apartment for camaraderie and fellowship and our signature dessert, Crawffogato. Based on the traditional Italian affogato, Crawffogato combines ice cream and espresso and is topped with freshly-baked biscotti. Small groups of 5-6 residents are invited earlier in the week to prepare the biscotti, a baking process that allows us to get to know each other in a smaller setting while offering service to the full house. The 200 or more pieces of biscotti we prepare each week are served to the typically 100 or more residents who join us each Wednesday night.

In the second semester, the Playdates become progressive, moving each week among the five residential floors at Crawford House and allowing the HAC to take the lead in planning and hosting the events. Floor leadership will design playful, engaging social or service events each week, with the Playdate returning to the FHOH apartment every six weeks. In this model, we use the first semester to establish house norms of participation in the weekly events with heavier reliance on the FHOH, then turn over that leadership to the HAC and others to make their own.

In 2017-2018, the Playdates preserved their Crawffogato tradition, with residents preparing the cookies each week. In an effort to expand our welcoming community, we mastered a gluten-free and nut-free biscotti to serve each week as well. As we increased our sustainability efforts at Crawford, we introduced CrawMugs to decrease the number of disposable cups, bowls and spoons we previously used.
